Abstract
This study, first, distinguishes the two dimensions of welfare support attitudes, that is, the normative and the practical dimension, and secondly, examines the influence of views on public institutions on each dimension. The normative attitude is the view on the government`s responsibility for welfare. The practical attitude is the willingness to pay more taxes for welfare. Views on public institutions consist of various views on political and welfare institutions. To understand welfare support attitudes in comparative perspective, we analyze the survey data collected from Korea and Germany in 2012. The overall findings are as follows. First, views on public institutions have more positive relationships with the willingness to pay more taxes than the view on the government`s responsibility. Secondly, views on public institutions more strongly influence the willingness to pay more taxes in Korea than in Germany
